WHAT ARE "STOCK" CARS? When you think of something in "stock" you think of something ordinary that you can just buy off the rack or off the shelf.  Go to your local car dealer and buy a car that is in stock and it will look just like thousands of other cars on the road already.   A "stock" car was originally meant to be defined as a car that was not modified from its original factory configuration. This term was used to show the difference between a race car or a custom designed car that was not to be used for regular every day driving.
